This article covers a list of references to The Legendary Starfy series in non-Starfy games.

Nintendo games

This section holds information about references to The Legendary Starfy series in non-Starfy games published by Nintendo.

Donkey Konga

One of the available tracks in the Japanese version of Donkey Konga is "Densetsu no Starfy". This is the full version of Becky's version of the series Title Song, complete with lyrics. This song was first heard in at least two Japanese commercials for Densetsu no Starfy. It was later released in the album Becky: Densetsu no Starfy. The song once appeared in an episode of the Japanese television show Oha Suta: The Super Kids Station, in which Becky made a guest appearance on the show to promote the sale of the album.

Dr. Mario & Puzzle League

In Dr. Mario & Puzzle League, text can be found in one of three "bmg" files.[1] This text originates from Densetsu no Starfy 3, specifically from the area of text from offset 0x5A6AE1).

It includes a conversation with Starly, Starfy and Moe where they ask Starfy if he remembers how to use his abilities or how collecting 5 pearls restores his health by one, and say that whenever Starfy needs advice he can meet them 'at home' (whether this is referring to Pufftop Palace or Moe's House is unclear because the exact source of this conversation is to be determined).

The leftover Densetsu no Starfy 3 text also includes debug leftovers, including test messages and text for testing functions (including color change testing, animation change testing and conversation testing).

Morihiro Iwamoto the The Legendary Starfy series composer worked on the music in this game, which features similar instruments to the Starfy Game Boy Advance games.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

The 'Legend of Stafy' movie poster

Starfy makes a cameo appearance in the Yoshi Theater, where he appears on the poster of a movie titled 'Legend of Stafy'. This was Starfy's first appearance outside of Japan. The artwork depicts the front cover of Densetsu no Starfy.

A similar poster is not known to appear in the Nintendo 3DS remake of the game (known as Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions). Instead, the posters in the Yoshi Theater are replaced with posters referencing other games in the Mario & Luigi series.

Super Princess Peach

Main article: Super Princess Peach
Sprite of the Starfish

Super Princess Peach shares several similarities in gameplay with games in The Legendary Starfy series, likely because the game was developed by TOSE.

Most notably, Super Princess Peach includes a Starfish enemy resembling Starfy wearing sunglasses that has the glossary entry "a star-shaped foe rumored to be the prince of a kingdom?". Its glossary entry may be a referring to Starfy who is the prince of Pufftop.

The fragile platforms in Shriek Mansion, Fury Volcano and Bowser's Villa feature fragile platforms that require Princess Peach to walk slowly on them using the L or R buttons. Similar platforms are used in Misty Town in Densetsu no Starfy 3 that require Starfy and Starly to glide on to them and walk slowly to avoid breaking them.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Starfy has a small role in Brawl, which is being an Assist Trophy. An Assist Trophy is an item that allows players to have another character help them in battle.

Starfy is known as one of the weakest Assist Trophies, because the characters can attack and push him off the stage, unlike other Assist Trophies. Starfy's only method of attacking in Brawl is using Star Spins. When Starfy appears, the sound effect heard at the beginning of the tune Confrontation with the Boss in the first four The Legendary Starfy series games plays.

In addition, both Starfy and Starly (called Stafy and Stapy respectively) appear as regular trophies, and Starfy, Starly, Moe (Kyorosuke), Chonmagyo, Mattel (Materu), Seiuchi-kun and Herman (Yadokarita) appear as stickers. There are two Starfy stickers. The first sticker depicts the official artwork of Starfy swimming from Densetsu no Starfy. The second sticker depicts the official artwork of Starfy wearing one of the Stuff (possibly the Aloha Shirt) from Densetsu no Starfy 2.

The Starfy trophy is obtainable by clearing Target Smash!! Level 1 with at least 10 different characters. The Starly trophy can be obtained randomly.

Stafy's younger sister, known for her jumbo pink ribbon, and princess of a floating kingdom. Stapy has a bold nature that contrasts her reserved brother. Though she is younger, Stapy is often the spark that motivates the sometimes spineless Stafy. Only Stapy can perform Wall Jumps, High Hats, and High Hat Spin Jumps. For an unknown reason, Stapy has a Kansai accent.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U

Starfy is an Assist Trophy in both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as he is in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Starfy walks around the stage and performs Star Spins before disappearing or falling off the stage. He can be attacked and can receive knockback in both the Nintendo 3DS version and the Wii U version. If defeated, he may tumble in the air while turning around clockwise with his back facing the screen, but the melody that normally plays in the Legendary Starfy series when Starfy or Starly is defeated does not play.

The melody based on the beginning of Confrontation with the Boss from Super Smash Bros. Brawl also plays when Starfy appears in both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U version.

Starfy re-appears as a regular trophy in at least Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, as originally seen in a pre-release screenshot of All-Star Mode that was posted by game director Masahiro Sakurai on Miiverse.[2] Among the places the Starfy trophy can be obtained include Classic Mode, the trophy shop[3], and possibly on the ground, as seen in the previously mentioned screenshot.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Starfy appears as a profile icon among Assist Trophies.

It's not a very powerful attack, but at least he's trying!

Debuting in "Densetsu no Starfy", he is the prince of the kingdom Tenkai that floats in the sky. He is a little careless and clumsy, but he does his best. He is a creature like a star appearing as a starfish. When called, he will Spin Attack boldly towards the fighters who are nearby. His power is not high, but he tries hard to give his body a stretch.(?) Starfy is the absentminded prince of the Pufftop Kingdom, and the hero of The Legendary Starfy. Is he a star? A starfish? His commitment to helping you when summoned is obvious, even if his species isn't. He'll use a Star Spin attack, which isn't all that powerful. It's the thought that counts![5].

History

On December 25, 2013, it was first revealed that Starfy would appear in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U via a picture of the day on the official Smash Bros. website, showing Starfy, a yellow Luma and Pikachu. [6] The picture of the day was also posted on Miiverse with the text "Pic of the day. Yellow characters." (Japanese: きょうの一枚。 黄色いいきものたち。, Picture of the Day. Yellow Creatures).[7][8]

Starfy's status in the game remained unconfirmed for a while, as the picture of the day did not confirm he was an Assist Trophy, and there was no page for Starfy as a new character on the site.

Later, two screenshots of Starfy appeared on the Mario Galaxy and Town and City stages, apparently as part of a press package release. Screenshots from it were uploaded to Flickr by 'Endless' in the first quarter of 2014.[9]

Starfy was confirmed as an Assist Trophy appeared during E3 2014 demo footage on the 10th of June, including the Super Smash Bros. Invitational tournament, where he appeared in matches.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Starfy is set to reappear as an Assist Trophy in this game for Nintendo Switch.

I wanna get the five stars!

This Japanese GameMaker game based on the PC game "I Wanna Be the Guy" features a stage based on The Legendary Starfy series with Buirun as the boss. The star shaped character on the title screen may also be based on Starfy because on the top-left portion of it he has pink cheeks.

Rockman 4: Minus Infinity

Two tunes from Rockman 4: Minus Infinity; a Japanese ROM hack of Mega Man 4 are based on music from Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Densetsu no Starfy 3. The Cossack 1+2 boss theme is derived from the tune Hero Lobber from both games, and the Wily boss theme is derived from the tune Jashin Evil from Densetsu no Starfy 3, which plays against Evil's second form.
