Stuff (known in Japan as Goods, グッズ) is a common feature in The Legendary Starfy series. It is included in all games in The Legendary Starfy series apart from Densetsu no Starfy.

In Densetsu no Starfy 4, it is also referred to as Kisekae (Japanese: きせかえ), which is short for "kisekae ningyou", meaning "dress-up dolls".

Overview

The Stuff screen is basically a menu where the player can select special treasures for Starfy or Starly to dress up in. In Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Densetsu no Starfy 3, the treasures are only split into two categories; Clothes and Extras (Accessories, アクセサリー in Japan). Clothes are basic items that Starfy and Starly can wear, while Extras are items that are wearable/holdable, but do not cover the body, such as the Baseball Cap (Japanese: やきゅうキャップ) from Densetsu no Starfy 2. Both Clothes and Extras can be worn together.

Clothes and Extras unlockable by clearing stages, clearing minigames on 'Hard' mode (in Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Densetsu no Starfy 3) and purchasing them from the Shop.

Densetsu no Starfy 4 introduces another category to the Stuff, known as Specials (Japanese: スペシャル). Specials dress up Starfy or Starly completely (excluding a few items such as the Grandfather Clock) and may depict them in the middle of a scene. For example, the Beach Vacation Special from The Legendary Starfy depicts Starfy with the Beachwear lying on a bench chair. Specials cannot be worn in combination with Clothes and Extras or a wearable version of Bunston's powers.

In Densetsu no Starfy 4, Specials are unlocked through normal means like Clothes and Extras, excluding Nintendo Headquarters, which is a gift from Manianko for purchasing every item from his Shop, excluding Konpeitou.

In The Legendary Starfy, Specials combine Clothes and Accessories to present a scene. They can only be unlocked by wearing an Extra with a matching set of Clothes.

The Legendary Starfy introduces the Bunston category (known in Japan as Rampa, ランパ). After the player unlocks one of Bunston's powers (Starfright unconfirmed) it becomes wearable as a costume in the Stuff. Stuff from the Bunston category cannot be worn in combination with Clothes, Extras or Specials.

Densetsu no Starfy 2

Some of the Stuff can be bought at Lovely's Shop. Some are unlocked by clearing levels, or clearing them again after beating the game once. Five are unlocked by completing Minigames on hard. There are 99 Stuff in this game. The game came with stickers of Starfy and some of the stuff.

Densetsu no Starfy 3

Much like Densetsu no Starfy 2, Stuff can be unlocked by clearing levels, clearing them again after beating the game once, buying them at Jojiro's shop, and completing each of the five Minigames on hard. Sometimes characters give Starfy and Starly stuff as well. There are 99 costumes in this game.

Densetsu no Starfy 4

Before this game was released, there was a contest in Japan known as the Wanted Kisekae contest, where fans could mail over their design for a costume over to Nintendo's headquarters with a chance of their costume being featured in the final game. Six winning designs are in the game, and the entrants had their names featured in the Densetsu no Starfy 4 Staff Credits.

In Staff Roll 1, the original illustrations of costumes designed by various runner-ups are shown on the touch screen, although none of these made it into the final game.

Stuff are normally unlocked by getting some from characters and buying some from Manianko's shop. This is the first appearance of Specials.

The Legendary Starfy

Stuff can be bought in Moe's Case and found in Treasure chests. Whenever the player gets a new Bunston transformation (Starfright unconfirmed) it becomes available in the Stuff.

Trivia

• Densetsu no Starfy is the only game where the stuff feature was not available.
• Densetsu no Starfy 2 is the only game where only Starfy can be dressed up. This is do to the fact that Starly first appears in Densetsu no Starfy 3.
• Costumes of Mashtooth and Dejiru appear, but not Ogura and Evil.
• A lot of Densetsu no Starfy 3's stuff are someone else's things like Torito's hat and Kittana's eye patch.
• Densetsu no Starfy 4 is the only game that had a costume contest.
• The Legendary Starfy is the only game where transformations are featured in stuff.
