'''Side Quests''', also known as '''Sub-Events''' (Japanese: サブイベント) are tasks that branch off each level of every [[:Category:The Legendary Starfy levels|Stage]] in ''[[The Legendary Starfy]]'', with the exception of [[Pufftop]] and the [[??? (stage)|??? Stage]], the first level of each Stage and its [[???? (Areas)|secret levels]]. Completing these Side Quests for the first time will unlock three secret levels in each Stage, referred to as 'Area Secret (number)' or '????' on the map screen. If Starfy revisits a Side Quest after completing it, there are no further rewards. There are a total of 24 Side Quests.

Herman buys his Coddies only the finest Coddie food in Gluglug Lagoon[http://www.starfywiki.org/Gluglug_Lagoon]. Unfortunately, Herman has lost the 5 Red Pearls[http://www.starfywiki.org/Pearls] needed to buy it. You must help Herman and find the pearls. Herman will then grant you access to Secret Level 1.


1-3: Mysterious Powers
[[Herman]]'s Red Pearls is the first Side Quest, found in Stage 1-2 ([[Star Spin]]). Herman has lost 5 precious [[Red Pearls]] and Starfy must help Herman to find the Pearls so that he can buy 'high-class fishie food' for his [[Coddies]]. If Starfy finds them, Herman will then grant the player access to Gluglug Lagoon's Area Secret 1.

Kittana challenges Starfy to reach the finish of a mine car ride, while avoiding his 'furious attacks'. Kittana will throw bombs and spikes towards Starfy. If Starfy gets hit three times, he will fail the minigame. If Starfy succeeds, will Kittana grant the player access to Area Secret 1.

Kittana and the Mine-Car Battle - Part 2 is found in Stage 5-4 (Stay on Track). It is last of two Side Quests set by Kittana. The other is Side Quest No. 13: Kittana and the Mine-Car Battle - Part 2.
 
Unlike the last Side Quest, Starfy must defeat Kittana by firing cannonballs at him using the Y button. He will create many illusory copies of himself which all disappear after one cannonball each, in addition to throwing bombs and spikes at Starfy. He will also occasionally throw a kitten-like enemy towards Starfy's path, which can be defeated by jumping on it via the B button. As before, Starfy is given three health points and must avoid getting hit by Kittana's attacks. If Starfy manages to defeat Kittana, he will grant the player access to Area Secret 3.

Unlike the last Side Quest, Fat Cat is faster, and wears a samurai costume. If Starfy succeeds, Kit Fish will grant the player access to Area Secret 1.

[[Herbert]] asks Starfy to juggle a [[Puffy Chub]] 20 times. Accepting the challenge places Starfy on top of a cloud platform. A Puffy Chub will appear in the middle of the air, and Starfy has to stop it from falling off the cloud platform or reaching the ground by using his Star Spin to keep it afloat. The Puffy Chub has to be juggled a total of at least 20 times in 60 seconds to win the challenge. If the Puffy Chub falls to the ground, it will vanish and reappear in the middle of the air again. If Starfy succeeds, Herbert will grant the player access to Area Secret 2.

Herbert challenges Starfy to see how far he can glide. There is a course which measures how far Starfy has traveled, extending to '170'. If Starfy surpasses the '70' marker, Herbert will grant the player access to Area Secret 3. Once Starfy has acquired the Shooting Star ability it is possible to use glide all the way to 170, though there is no additional reward for doing this. According to Herbert, one day Kit Fish 'came over and tried to fly too', but she 'barely made it' past the 10 marker.

Starfy must reach the top of a platform within 15 seconds, by using his Shooting Star ability to knock out obstacles across the room and jump to the next one. If Starfy succeeds, the Bilge Monkeys will grant Starfy access to Area Secret 1.

Starfy has to use his [[Turbo Swim]] three times to reveal The Bilge Monkeys three times before they come out and tell Starfy that they were just having fun. As a reward, Bunston will grant the player access to Area Secret 2.

Shuffle Fork is found in Stage 7-4 (The Trio Returns). It is also known as Loot Shuffle.
 
In Shuffle Fork, Starfy must find Fork in a treasure chest 3 times. There are three treasure chests, two of which do not hold Fork and are meant to catch Starfy out. Choosing the wrong treasure chest causes Starfy to fail the challenge. Each time, the chests will shuffle. If Starfy succeeds, Fork grants the player access to Area Secret 3.

===No. 22: Ghosts in Space===
Ghosts in Space is found in Stage 8-2 ([[The Cosmic Express|Modo's Cosmic Express]]).
 
Moe asks Starfy to count the right number of ghosts which appear outside of a window outside of [[The Cosmic Express]]. A number of [[Indigobo]] will appear for 15 seconds and four platforms will rise from the ground. Starfy must choose the right amount by landing on to a platform indicating the correct number ghosts appeared. If Starfy was correct, Moe will grant the player access to Area Secret 1.

Outside the Window is found in Stage 8-3 (Asteroid Attack).
 
It is set by Moe and is basically the same as Side Quest No. 22: Ghosts In Space, with the exception that UFOs will appear instead of Indigobo, and will fly across the screen at varying speeds. Telling Moe the correct amount of objects will grant the player access to Area Secret 2.

===No. 24: Nasty Trappa===
Nasty Trappa is the final Side Quest, found in Stage 8-4 (Mashtooth's Last Stand).
 
In Nasty Trappa, a [[Bunneran Soldier]] is trapped on top of a platform. Starfy is asked to jump to the top with the help of 16 moving platforms, whilst avoiding a Trappa in order to save him. Succeeding grants access to Area Secret 3.

The Mushroom Farm is found in Stage 4-4 (The Terrible Trio).

Old Man Vern is angry about Mushrews eating all of his mushrooms. Starfy must eliminate all 15 Mushrews within 00:60. Old Man Vern will then grant the player access to Area Secret 3.

No. 13: Kittana and the Mine-Car Battle - Part 1

Kittana and the Mine-Car Battle - Part 1 is found in Stage 5-2 (Rickety Ride). It is the first of two Side Quests set by Kittana. The other is Side Quest No. 15: Kittana and the Mine-Car Battle - Part 2. It is found in Stage 5-2 (Rickety Ride).

Kittana challenges Starfy to reach the finish of a mine car ride, while avoiding his 'furious attacks'. Kittana will throw bombs and spikes towards Starfy. If Starfy gets hit three times, he will fail the minigame. If Starfy succeeds, will Kittana grant the player access to Area Secret 1.

No. 14: Air Jump competition

Air Jump competition is found in Stage 5-3 (Get Ready to Ronk).

Shurikit challenges Starfy to use the Air Jump ability to race to the top of a platform. There are moving platforms to assist Starfy and Shurikit. If Starfy reaches the top before Shurikit, she will grant the player access to Area Secret 2.

No. 15: Kittana and the Mine-Car Battle - Part 2

Kittana and the Mine-Car Battle - Part 2 is found in Stage 5-4 (Stay on Track). It is last of two Side Quests set by Kittana. The other is Side Quest No. 13: Kittana and the Mine-Car Battle - Part 2.

Unlike the last Side Quest, Starfy must defeat Kittana by firing cannonballs at him using the Y button. He will create many illusory copies of himself which all disappear after one cannonball each, in addition to throwing bombs and spikes at Starfy. He will also occasionally throw a kitten-like enemy towards Starfy's path, which can be defeated by jumping on it via the B button. As before, Starfy is given three health points and must avoid getting hit by Kittana's attacks. If Starfy manages to defeat Kittana, he will grant the player access to Area Secret 3.

No. 16: Behind the Mask

Behind the Mask is found in Stage 6-2 (End of the Rainbow).

Kit Fish asks Starfy fights Fat Cat in a wrestling match, like in Side Quest No. 3: The Masked Catfish. Starfy has to push Fat Cat to the other side of the room using his Star Spin. Unlike the last Side Quest, Fat Cat is faster, and wears a samurai costume. If Starfy succeeds, Kit Fish will grant the player access to Area Secret 1.

"This masked opponent must be Fat Cat, right? Put your back into it, Starfy! PUSHHHHH!"

No. 17: Juggle This

Juggle This is found in Stage 6-3 (The Star Spin Goes Ultra).

Herbert asks Starfy to juggle a Puffy Chub 20 times. Accepting the challenge places Starfy on top of a cloud platform. A Puffy Chub will appear in the middle of the air, and Starfy has to stop it from falling off the cloud platform or reaching the ground by using his Star Spin to keep it afloat. The Puffy Chub has to be juggled a total of at least 20 times in 60 seconds to win the challenge. If the Puffy Chub falls to the ground, it will vanish and reappear in the middle of the air again. If Starfy succeeds, Herbert will grant the player access to Area Secret 2.

No. 18: Gliding By

Gliding By is found in Stage 6-4 (Snips and Tricks).

Herbert challenges Starfy to see how far he can glide. There is a course which measures how far Starfy has traveled, extending to '170'. If Starfy surpasses the '70' marker, Herbert will grant the player access to Area Secret 3. Once Starfy has acquired the Shooting Star ability it is possible to use glide all the way to 170, though there is no additional reward for doing this. According to Herbert, one day Kit Fish 'came over and tried to fly too', but she 'barely made it' past the 10 marker.

No. 19: Shooting Star Attack

Shooting Star Attack is found in Stage 7-2 (Shooting Star).

The Bilge Monkeys ask Starfy to show him his Shooting Star attack. Starfy must reach the top of a platform within 15 seconds, by using his Shooting Star ability to knock out obstacles across the room and jump to the next one. If Starfy succeeds, the Bilge Monkeys will grant Starfy access to Area Secret 1.

"Use your Shooting Star attack to get to the top of the cliff! If you have trouble, ask the Bilge Monkeys!"

No. 20: Mega Snark's Snack

Mega Snark's Snack is found in Stage 7-3 (Mega Snark). It is set within Mega Snark's stomach.

Bunston asks Starfy to investigate a voice coming from the Mega Snark's deeper insides. Starfy has to use his Turbo Swim three times to reveal The Bilge Monkeys three times before they come out and tell Starfy that they were just having fun. As a reward, Bunston will grant the player access to Area Secret 2.

No. 21: Shuffle Fork

Shuffle Fork is found in Stage 7-4 (The Trio Returns). It is also known as Loot Shuffle.

In Shuffle Fork, Starfy must find Fork in a treasure chest 3 times. There are three treasure chests, two of which do not hold Fork and are meant to catch Starfy out. Choosing the wrong treasure chest causes Starfy to fail the challenge. Each time, the chests will shuffle. If Starfy succeeds, Fork grants the player access to Area Secret 3.

Planet Bunnera

No. 22: Ghosts in Space

Ghosts in Space is found in Stage 8-2 (Modo's Cosmic Express).

Moe asks Starfy to count the right number of ghosts which appear outside of a window outside of The Cosmic Express. A number of Indigobo will appear for 15 seconds and four platforms will rise from the ground. Starfy must choose the right amount by landing on to a platform indicating the correct number ghosts appeared. If Starfy was correct, Moe will grant the player access to Area Secret 1.

"What's outside the window? How many are there? Take a good luck and count them!"

No. 23: Outside the Window

Outside the Window is found in Stage 8-3 (Asteroid Attack).

It is set by Moe and is basically the same as Side Quest No. 22: Ghosts In Space, with the exception that UFOs will appear instead of Indigobo, and will fly across the screen at varying speeds. Telling Moe the correct amount of objects will grant the player access to Area Secret 2.

"Mashtooth's pirates are on the attack! Concentrate and count them all."

No. 24: Nasty Trappa

Nasty Trappa is the final Side Quest, found in Stage 8-4 (Mashtooth's Last Stand).

In Nasty Trappa, a Bunneran Soldier is trapped on top of a platform. Starfy is asked to jump to the top with the help of 16 moving platforms, whilst avoiding a Trappa in order to save him. Succeeding grants access to Area Secret 3.

"Avoid the Trappa and go help the Bunneran soldiers before it's too late!"
