The Squirts

The Squirts are a group of six squids who are comedians. Their Japanese name is Yariikā Group, ヤリイカーズ. They are all based on "Spear Squid" (Japanese: ヤリイカ), also known as Bleeker's squid (genus Loligo Bleekeri), a type of squid known for their spear shaped heads.

The first five Squirts appear in Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Densetsu no Starfy 3. All of the Squirts except for their boss, Bawss, are named Squirt #(number). An additional Squirt; Squirt #5 was introduced in The Legendary Starfy. In Densetsu no Starfy 3, they are rivals with the Makaika Group. Bawss also appeared in Densetsu no Starfy 4, although he is the only Squirt seen in that game.

Bawss

This Squirt is the boss of all 5. His Japanese name is Yariika-san (ヤリイカさん). In Densetsu no Starfy 2, he is found in Pufftop level 3, where he asks Starfy to find the four other members of the Squirt group. He reappears in level 5, where he explains that the Pufftop Kids were locked up in a cell by 'bad guys' and that the Prison Key can unlock the door. He then gives Starfy the Thunder Pants. In Densetsu no Starfy 4, he teaches Starfy the Shooting Star ability.

Squirt #1

This Squirt is very lazy. He sleeps almost all the time. It's unknown how he goes around.

Toy description

"This is probably the only Squirt that you can get to keep quiet now and then.
This guy is always eating and sleeping. Hm....kind of reminds me of Starfy! Ha!" (#109)

Squirt #2

This Squirt is the smartest of the Squirts. According to Moe, he always got booed off stage because his jokes were "over everyone's heads". He is also an athlete who challenges Starfy in Side Quest No. 6 "Dash Through the Hot Spring" to pass through an obstacle course and reach Bawss within 40 seconds, to prove that Starfy would be worthy of becoming a Squirt.

He's definitely the smartest of the Squirts. But that's not saying much..." (#110)

Squirt #3

Squirt #3 is the kind of Squirt that usually shows up late to meetings or gigs. Bawss is not getting used to that so well. This Squirt is also known to judge other squirts by their jokes. He is also the second squirt in command, even though he is always sick. According to the item description of Squirt #3 from Densetsu no Starfy 2, he apparently cannot stop sneezing.

"This Squirt is always showing up late to gigs. Bawss doesn't like that too much.
He's always sick, too. This is the second in command? Really?" (#111)

Squirt #4

This squirt takes pride in his jokes, which sometimes make people laugh. Squirt #4 is very confident about what he says on stage and tries his best to make some good, or great jokes. However, according to Moe he "tries a little too hard to talk a little too rough". According to the item description of Squirt #4 from Densetsu no Starfy 2, he loves makeup.

"When you're in Hotcha Springs it's more than likely you'll run into the Squirts!
This Squirt tries a little too hard to talk a little too rough. It's usually pretty funny." (#112)

Squirt #5

This is the most secretive squirt of all. He does not like to be disturbed when he's doing something "important" and doesn't tell good jokes. He has also appeared in Side Quest No. 5 "A Little Lost", where Squirt #5 is hiding. Moe is frightened by Squirt #5 and mistakes him for a bird monster squawking.

Toy description

"This Squirt always has this strange little frown on his face...
Maybe he'd smile if he told better jokes!" (#113)

Trivia

• According to Moe's siblings, Bawss is a squid because one day, TOSE went out to lunch one day, and the special was "fresh squid".
