The Mermaid is a character who aids Starfy throughout his adventures. She has appeared in every game in the Starfy series so far. In the games she allows the player to save their progress and heal all of the player's health. Mermaid is seen throughout various levels at different points, and is identified by her signature purple clam shell. She appears to be very nice, and is a good friend to Starfy and his pals. In the Game Boy Advance games, Starfy and Starly can save at the Mermaid by touching her shell. In Densetsu no Starfy, the mermaid appears in the background of the end stage sequence after first collecting 9999 Pearls. In the Nintendo DS games, Starfy and Starly have to approach the Mermaid and press X to save.

In The Legendary Starfy, Mermaid can sometimes be seen if the player chooses to have Mermaid Gossip on their Nintendo DS's bottom screen. She will give Starfy (the player) tips and advice on the tasks at hand. She tries to encourage Starfy (and the player) to do their best and is always there to help out with her advice.

In the manga, Mermaid does not appear in the story. However, she can be seen among an audience in volume 2.

Trivia

  • In Densetsu no Starfy 4, and the Japanese version of The Legendary Starfy the mermaid shouts "Hi hi!". In the English versions of The Legendary Starfy, this was changed to simply "Hi!"
  • In Densetsu no Starfy 4, there is a glitch where saving at one Mermaid and moving towards another while the animation hasn't finished will show a glitchy animation for the other, even though Starfy or Starly didn't interact with the other Mermaid. This is exploitable in Flourishing Desert (Stage 6-4).
